John Wesley's letter |
On Legends |
John Wesley is considered to be the founder of the holiness movement. (Methodists, Nazarenes, and Wesleyans)
I first heard of this letter when listening to a cassette of Dr. Walter Martin, then present of CRI. At the end of the tape he was asked what he thought of the Church of the Nazarene. (this was off subject, which is why I can't seem to trace the tape) He said it was a good church, except for the fact that most of them held to the doctrine that a Christian could become sinless in this life. Dr. Martin then mentioned the legend of the letter.
There is a legend that John Wesley, before he died wrote a letter in which he stated some people were beginning to take him out of context in saying that it is possible to be sinless in this life.
He went on to say he believed this was not possible.
I would like to find this letter, and publish it here. If anyone knows about this please let us know.
