Legend says that the Tarot, is a Deck of fortune telling cards going back to ancient Egypt, brought by the Gypsies when they migrated from eastern India as far into Europe as southern France. The Gypsies used the Tarot as one of their chief ways to predict the future and make money.

In reality the Tarot deck dates no farther back than 14^th century Europe. Possibly brought by the Gypsies when they migrated from eastern India as far into Europe as southern France. Given the history of the Templars and Cathari in the south of France, there is another possible origin to the Tarot.

The deck could have been constructed using symbols to teach a kind of Gnostic catechism.  Some symbols could be Biblical or Gnostic. These teachings could then be taught and distributed right under the nose of the Roman Catholic Church. Then adding number cards so if asked, outsiders could be told it was a game. 

When the legend evolves in to a fortune telling system, anyone finding lost cards would of course return them to the only ones who could use them to predict the future. This would keep the catechism in the hands of those protecting Gnostic ideas without any fear heretic hunters finding any written documentation, and allow them to make money too.

Some examples of symbolism would be:

• The death card: a hooded rider on a black horse (see Revelation 5) but notice he is trampling a priest, bishop, and the Pope.

If this was just a game or symbolic catechism it has no power to predict the future. Satan; however, will use anything, like this, to lead you into doing things that you would not normally do. If it is only a mild distraction it at lest keeps you away from the scriptures, but if, because of it, you make the wrong decisions that destroy your life, then so much the better.
