Voodoo cam from Africa to Haiti and is a Africa word for
spirit. The religion is animistic. It’s history goes back several thousand
years.
Basic beliefs are:
- worship of many spirits called Loa
- Ceremonies supposedly include, spirit possession, astral
projection, and the speaking in an unknown spirit language.
- Many items from Roman Catholics are used (images of
saints ext.)
- the use of drums and music and dancing until one is
possessed by a loa
- An animal sacrifice of a goat, sheep, chicken, or dog.
- The blood of the sacrifice is sometimes drunk by the one
possessed by the loa.
- A belief in white and black magic
- Zombies and voodoo dolls are unique to this religion.
Santeria and Hoodoo can be describes as alternate forms of voodoo. Each a combination of a
similar Africa animist religion and Roman Catholicism in varying degrees
