Charismatic Movement

On Church History

Charismatic Movement is considered to have begun in 1960, with a group of Episcopalians in Van Nuys, California. Distinct charismatic networks and organizations soon arose within the Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian, and other Protestant denominations. Most are orthodox in doctrine and emphasize activity within their own denominations. They are ecstatic in worship, although generally more subdued than Pentecostals, and they align themselves with other Evangelicals in their emphasis on evangelism and personal faith in Christ.

The difference between Pentecostals and charismatics is that the Pentecostals would say if you do not speak in tongues you do not have the Holy Spirit and are therefore a second class Christian, while the charismatics would say this is not true one may be filled with the spirit and not speak in tongues. (See 1 Corinthians 12)

There are no charismatic denominations.
