On Cults

The Churches of Christ International, formally know as Church of Christ Boston, is classified as a cult for the following reasons.

History:
The churches of Christ have they origins in the Campbellite moment of the late 1700's and early 1800's in order to get away from controversy of the fighting between the Calvinists and the Catholics their philosophy was to speak where they scriptures speak and be silent where they do not. No reference or study of church history or anything outside of the bible. This worked well for what they were trying to do. However; after a while this led to the churches allowing almost any teaching to occur, since there was nothing to check against outside of scripture.

Out of this atmosphere the churches of Christ international came to be. Almost all churches including the vast majority of the churches of Christ groups consider them a cult for the following reasons:

  1. Not only is baptism necessary for salvation (as in some Churches of Christ) but you must be baptized by one of them in order to be saved.
  2. If they leave the churches of Christ international they will loose their salvation.
  3. Members are required to confess their sins to the one who disciples them
  4. In some cases control is exercised so far as to tell members who they will marry.

This group was started by Kipp McKean. Other names associated with the group are: Crossroads Movement, Multiplying Ministries, and the Discipling Movement.

Examples of the use of well know mind control techniques are: members are instructed they are only saved if they remain in the church. If they leave and to to another church they will lose their salvation.
