On fake works

The Epistle of the Apostles reports to be another story of the Apostles and the teachings of Jesus.
It may have some real truth to it; but it has obviously been tampered with. the Coptic version begins with chapter 7.

Teachings that match the bible are:

  1. Chapter 3 - States Jesus is God.
  2. Chapter 39 - States "all men have the power to believe"

One can see the Gnostic influence in:

  1. Chapter 4 - contains the Infancy gospel story of the letters A and B.
  2. Chapter 11- shows Jesus telling Andrew, Peter, and Thomas to look at his hands and feet and side. And says: for it is written in the prophet: A phantom of a devil maketh no footprint on the earth.
  3. Chapter 13 - Jesus goes down to earth changing forms so the angels and other don't realize he is descending.
  4. Chapter 14 - Jesus appeared as Gabriel to Mary.
  5. Chapter 17 - Uses the word Ogdoad and has Gnostic flavor to it.
  6. Chapter 28 - Uses the word archons for evil rulers. 
  7. Chapter 42 - The 5 wise virgins are "Faith and Love and Grace and Peace and Hope" the foolish are "Knowledge, Understanding (Perception) Obedience, Patience, and Compassion" those who "that have believed and confessed me but have not fulfilled my commandments" 

New information:

  1. Chapter 15 - Jesus says it is needful to keep the Passover until he come again
  2. Chapter 17 - 2nd coming is 150 or 120 years after Pentecost (poss referring to Pentecost plus 120 days would be RHS) 
  3. Chapter 27 - Jesus preached to the righteous in Hades and brought them out. If any believed in Jesus but does not obey him they will be perdition.
  4. Chapter 34 - Gives atmospheric signs at the 2nd coming.
  5. Chapter 37 - end time signs: "persecutions of them that believe on me and against the elect" and "And there shall be many that believe on my name and yet follow after evil and spread vain doctrine. And men shall follow after them and their riches, and be subject unto their pride, and lust for drink, and bribery, and there shall be respect of persons among them."
