Theories on the
Security of the Believer
Only one of these can be correct!

On Bible Studies

1. Extreme Eternal Security Once saved always saved, sin doesn't matter so do what you want!
1 John 3:9 Those who have been born of God do not sin, because God's seed abides in them; they cannot sin, because they have been born of God. (NRSV)
Romans 3:8 And why not say (as some people slander us by saying that we say), "Let us do evil so that good may come"? Their condemnation is deserved! (NRSV)
2. Eternal Security Truly saved people can't loose there salvation, but they have a new nature that makes them not want to sin.
1 John 3:8 Everyone who commits sin is a child of the devil; for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The Son of God was revealed for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil. (NRSV)
3. Apostasy only You only loose your salvation when you no longer believe.
(Positive Jamesian) You prove by your works that believe. If you truly believe, whether you have reoccurring sin or not, your Faith will manifest in some form of righteous that will naturally flow out into the works that you do. Jms 2:15-16 is just one way it may manifest.
4. Apostasy only You only loose your salvation when you no longer believe
(Negative Jamesian) However; you prove by your works that you don't truly believe if you practice sin.
Romans 10:9 because if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (NRSV)
James 2:14,17 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but do not have works? Can faith save you? 17 So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead. (NRSV)
5. Continual willful If you sin unintentionally your still saved but if you persist in willful sin you loose your salvation.
Romans 7:20 Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I that do it, but sin that dwells within me. (NRSV)
5b Continual If you're not sinning unintentionally and or willfully less and less you loose your salvation.
6. Armenian (willful) If you sin unintentionally your still saved but every time you sin willfully you loose your salvation
Romans 1:28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind and to things that should not be done. (NRSV)
7. Continual unintentional Any willful sin or if you're not sinning unintentionally less and less you loose your salvation.
8. Hyper-Armenian Every time you sin in the slightest you loose your salvation.
1 John 5:13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life. (NRSV)
